Distress 01:42
So fades the lovely blooming flow’r, Frail, smiling solace of an hour; So soon our transient comforts fly, And pleasure only blooms to die. Is there no kind, no healing art, To soothe the anguish of the heart? Spirit of grace, be ever nigh; Thy comforts are not made to die. Let gentle patience smile on pain, Till dying hope revives again, Hope wipes the tear from sorrow’s eye, And faith points upward to the sky.

One fine summer's evening, it happened here of late: As I was a-rambling, hard was my fate. I went to my love's window, expecting to get in, But instead of my great pleasure, my troubles did begin. I waited for the hour as patient as Job, But found that my name was not upon record. I found there was another enjoying my room, So I took to the road by the light of the moon. I took to the road not knowing the way, With my bottle in my pocket, jolly well as they, And under yon shade tree in yon new pine glen, I laid myself down while the whiskey I drank in. While drinking my whiskey I found I was alone, Enjoying bad company, although I had none, And small birds and nightingales sweetly did sing: Here's your health to pretty Polly, the beautiful queen. Well it's green grow the laurels, and likewise the rue. Happy was I, the day I met you. And now we must part and I hope we meet again. I'm wounded in love; have you ever been the same?

Ye souls who are bound unto Canaan, Come join in and help me to sing The praises of my loving Jesus, My Prophet, my Priest, and my King. His name is most sweetly melodious, 'Twill help you most swiftly to move, While Jesus Himself is the leader, We're bound by the cords of His love.

Long Time 02:00
I'm a long time traveling here below I'm a long time traveling away from home I'm a long time traveling here below To lay this body down Farewell my friends whose tender care Has long engaged my love Your fond embrace I now exchange For better friends above Ye fleeting charms of earth Farewell, your springs of joy are dry My soul now seeks another home A brighter world on high

Horo Johnny, won't you come home soon? Winter is coming and I'm all alone. A candle is burning in my window, love, And the wild geese, they're coming home. A young boy's love is something to behold: First it burns and then it grows cold. He'll kiss you in the moonlight and your hand he'll hold, Then he'll vanish like the morning dew. "Mercy oh thou son of David," Thus poor blind Bartimeus prayed, "Others by Thy grace are saved, Now to me afford Thine aid." Money was not what he wanted, Though by begging used to live; But he asked and Jesus granted, Alms which none but he could give. “Lord, remove this grievous blindness, Let mine eyes behold the day;” Straight he saw, and, won by kindness, Followed Jesus in the way.

Normandy 02:07
There's a land of pure delight where saints immortal reign. Infinite day excludes the night and pleasures banish pain. Could we stand where Moses stood and view the landscape o'er? Not Jordan's streams nor Death's cold flood should fright us from the Shore. Could we make our doubts remove, those gloomy doubts that rise, And see the Jesus that we love with unbeclouded eyes?

Turtle Dove 01:37
Turtle dove done drooped its wings x3 High on Zion's hill to sing Chorus: Adam and Eve, do do, Adam and Eve won't you tell it to me, Meet me at the door, won't you tell it to me, Sasalasado and a salasari. My name is written on David's line x3 I'll get to heaven on the wings of time When I get to heaven I know the rules x3 Skip on down to the wading pool

And am I born to die, to lay this body down And must my trembling spirit fly into a world unknown? The God that rules on high, that all the earth surveys, That rides upon the stormy sky and calms the roaring sea: She formed the deeps unknown, she gave the seas their bound; The watery worlds are all her own and all the solid ground. Thou sun with golden beams and moon with paler rays, Ye starry lights, ye twinkling flames, shine to your maker's praise. The hill of Zion yields a thousand sweets Before we reach the heavenly field or walk the golden streets. And is the love of peace the answer to our woes, And is the beauty of the Earth the balm for every wound?

I am on my journey home to the new Jerusalem We will walk the golden streets in the new Jerusalem We will see our fathers there in the new Jerusalem

about

Before Molly moved away from the DC area, we wanted to have a record of the music we've made in the past few years. One afternoon in August 2019, we recorded these songs around one microphone, live, in our friend's home.

We grew up around the corner from each other in Silver Spring, Maryland. Introduced to the American hymnbook The Sacred Harp by Molly’s mother Busy Graham, Corinne got hooked on this tradition, traveling around the country to sing with tens or hundreds of others in harmony. We complement our Sacred Harp repertoire (sometimes known as “shape-note”) with old-time songs and tunes, banjo, cello, fiddles and Irish step dancing feet. We're also guided by living composers, such as our great friends Moira Smiley and Malcolm Dalglish.
